The Brecon Fans Race Weekend - July 14th-15th 2012
Two classic fell races for the price of about half a road race. Make a weekend of it - combine top running, eating and drinking with excellent local camping and accommodation in the scenery of the Brecon Beacons.
Day 1: Pen y Fan Race
A classic short race up the highest mountain in southern Britain. A must-do for every runner, packing nearly 2000 feet of ascent into 3.5 miles, with one of the steepest descents in the calendar. First run in 1986, the race has been tackled by all the top UK fell runners (see the results archive), and has a record time that many consider unbreakable. More details here.
In 2012 the prize for breaking the 30.00 minute record will be £600, and Pen y Fan has been chosen as a counter in
- the Welsh Athletics Mountain Running Championships
- the WFRA Open Welsh Championships, and...
- the WFRA South Wales Summer Series
Day 2: Fan y Big Horseshoe Race
A perfect 10-mile skyline route, starting and finishing in lovely Llanfrynach. Created in 2007 by members of Mynydd Du, the race has proved popular with hardened fell runners and novices alike. More details here.

Entering the Brecon Fans races online will guarantee your place and speed up your registration on the day. It might just inspire you to do a little more training too...
Prizes
Each race has a generous prize list for all age categories up to V70, plus a team prize.
In addition there are overall prizes for the best aggregate performance across the two races, for 1st man and 1st lady. These are calculated on the lowest total positions. If this method produces a tie, then we revert to fastest overall time.
Acknowledgements and Thanks
The races are run with the kind permission of private landowners and the National Trust.
Fell running club Mynydd Du provide backing for the races - equipment, helpers, and occasionally some decent runners.
Lastly huge thanks to the race sponsors who always allow us to give out a decent spread of food, drink and prizes. See our sponsors page for more information on how to get involved.
