New Facebook page sure to attract thousands

Demonstrating my mastery of displacement activity, I've created a Facebook page for the Brecon Fans Race Weekend http://www.facebook.com/BreconFansRaceWeekend

and embedded a panel for it into the home page of this site. I expect a turnout of at least 5000 after this sophisticated marketing campaign.

Please all "like" it a lot, then go for a run in the hills...

Crispin ...

Tying red tape

We've left it a bit late this year, but we've finally sent off the insurance permit forms to the WFRA (Welsh Fell Runners Association), and letters to the National Trust and landowner. Later this weekend we'll do an email blast to previous competitors and running clubs, with the race poster.

Naomi has secured sponsorship from Cotswold in Brecon which is great news.

Still on the "to do" list for June:

Putting posters up around town, and at Dering Lines barracks

Arrangements with St Mary's Bakery and Breconshire Brewery

 Recruiting marshals and photographers

Write to the Brecon Mountain Rescue

And probably loads of other things I've forgotten!

Offa's Orror & fly posting

Nipped down to Tintern Abbey for the Offa’s Orror race this morning; 20Km with 1600 ft of ascent (nice mix of units there, taken from the race web site). This web site is sticking with shillings and quarts.

I took Lois with me and she put fliers for the Brecon Fans races on all parked cars in the area, some of which may have belonged to runners.

Last time I did this race, in 2007, Mynydd Du took team prize with 2nd (Martin Shaw), 3rd (me) and 4th (Dave Finn), but this year most members donned the colours of their road/XC clubs. And while I ran 1:25 in 2007, this year I was pretty pleased with 1:28 (old age and injury taking their toll). But talking of old age, this did not stop Martin Cox (V40) winning easily overall. Rob Gordon was 3rd in about 1:23.

In the ladies race, Emma ran well to take 2nd, behind some scrawny lass from Cornwall with an impressive 6 pack.

I made all the ladies swoon at the finish, partly with my devastated looks, but mainly with my bleeding nipples…

Results are likely to appear on the Chepstow web site race page in due course.
