Final Pre-Race Information 2023
Here is some important information – please read it all, and contact us if there’s any remaining questions (reply to this email or use our contact form.
Your entry details
Please check your entry details on this page: https://www.breconfans.org.uk/entry-list
Is your name, category and club correct? Are you entered for the right race(s)?
If anything's wrong, please use the Amend Entry function, or contact Fabian 4.
Finding the races
If you’ve not been before, please do your homework on how to get to the race, and please do not phone us 3 minutes before the start saying you’re lost (yes, it happens!). There’s plenty of information and maps on the website. Satnav will get you to Llanfrynach village on the Saturday, but do not rely on it for Pen y Fan.
Parking
There is a cash charge for parking on both days, designed to encourage car-sharing - see the race pages for details. It's free if you have three or more competitors in the car. Please be ready to show proof of entry at the gate, and have the right cash handy.
Pins
Please bring pins for attaching your race number to your vest, though we will have some if you cannot find any. Reminder: numbers are an important safety aid, and must not be folded or attached anywhere other than your vest front.
Maps
Please print off the relevant route map(s) from the website and include them in your race kit. If you have no means of printing, we will have a small supply on the day.
Kit
The following is mandatory at both races: route map, full windproof body cover (i.e. jacket and trousers), compass, whistle.
You will need a bumbag or small backpack to carry your kit.
Optional kit: food, drink, hat, gloves, other spare clothes, phone (GPS navigation aids not to be used except in an emergency)
Footwear: with rain forecast for both days, the routes could be slippery underfoot - we recommend proper fell-running shoes with studded grip.

On the day(s)
Collect your race number and electronic wristband from registration before the start. Please arrive in plenty of time (from 10.30am onwards) to help avoid queues.
Each race has its own numbers and wristbands – do not keep/re-use your number or wristband from Saturday.
Reminder: race numbers are an important safety aid, and must not be folded, or attached anywhere other than your vest front.
Pre-Start
Please assemble in the start area at least ten minutes before the start, i.e. by 11:50am. You will need to undertake the Racetek pre-start check-in, which means using your timing wristband on the timer unit.
There will be a pre-race announcement at 11:55.
There may be random kit checks, so please have your kit on you at this time, ready for the race start.
Start
There will be a mass start at 12.00 noon for both races. Juniors at Pen y Fan will start with seniors.
Summit checkpoints
Both senior races have a summit checkpoint (Fan y Big and Pen y Fan). There will be marshal(s) in high viz, and a timer unit. You must present your wristband to the timer unit until it beeps. Bypassing this process will mean a DNF.
Finish
We are operating “fast finish mode” at both races, meaning you may sprint for the line, then you must stay in order in the funnel and present your wristband to the timer unit at the end of the funnel, until it beeps.
Wristband return
After the finish, please return your wristband – a marshal will have a tub for you to deposit yours. There’s a £10 charge for any wristband not returned.
If you cannot finish
Once you have collected your number and wristband you are officially in the race. If you cannot finish the race for any reason, it is essential that you report to a race marshal (at summit or at Start/Finish), or we will assume you are lost/injured and start searching and call police and mountain rescue
Refreshments & Beer
Limited liquid refreshments will be available at race finish on both days.
There will be a bottle of beer for every runner, to exchange for your race number.
Results & Prizes
Results will be displayed in real time on the Racetek website here: https://www.racetek-live.co.uk/website/public_results/
And possibly on a screen at the venue, if we can.
We look forward to seeing you at the weekend.
Best wishes
Naomi and Crispin
