Pen y Fan Race 2004 Results

March 2004. Crispin remembers... the race was a counter for the Welsh Championships. Despite having lived in Brecon for over two years I had never done the race or even the route before. My Mum and Dad were watching, but the clag was well down - we couldn't see much beyond the stile. I had a decent run, despite a fall on the descent which ripped open my knee, but when I arrived at the finished I was very surprised to find nobody else there - the 3 runners ahead of me at the summit must have gone a-wandering in the clag or taken poor descent routes. A lady runner didn't arrive at the finish - the organiser Andy Jones disappeared to look for her, and nobody quite knew what was going on. I don't remember any prize giving - after a long wait we had to go home and everyone was a bit pissed off. I do remember it was the London Marathon the following weekend, and my cut and swollen knee certainly helped me keep a conservative pace in the first half - I finished in 2:47.
