Along with the Fan y Big Horseshoe the day before, this was pretty much the first proper race in our area in 2021, and we managed to follow the usual format with a mass start, while asking competitors to be masked up when gathered together at registration and the start. The only sacrifice was that we didn't hold a physical prize-giving, but there was a bottle of beer for every runner, and plenty of safe socialising in the fresh air.

It was a lovely day for racing, though the clag was down on the summit while most runners were passing the checkpoint.

Luke Fisher secured another emphatic win, following his record-breaking success at Fan y Big. But there was to be no record today - Luke was nearly 4 minutes outside Keith Anderson's incredible record from 1992, but tired legs and not knowing the course wouldn't have helped. Matt O'Keefe and Joe Reardon took second and third places, Matt's strong descending skills overturning their summit positions.

Claire Prosser took a clear win in the women's race, ahead of Rona Fishburn and Sarah Pemberton. Sarah, from Serpentine Running Club, was first woman for the overall weekend, having won the Fan y Big Horseshoe. As in the men's race, 2nd and 3rd places traded positions on the descent, as reminder of how important descending skills are at Pen y Fan.

Cambridge Harriers took the men's team prize with good packing, while Ryde Harriers took the women's, not least by being the only club to field a team!
